I gave my son fennel tea when he was born almost 40 years ago! Bought the seeds from the pharmacy and steeped them in hot water. He had a really bad case of colic but the tea really helped!

Congratulations to all! Such a pretty name for a little girl.
Every country seems to have special things that "everybody knows" are
the right way to handle babies. Never having given birth in Germany, I
was surprised to find out that babies (older than 2 weeks) are given
fennel tea to soothe and reduce gas. Comes in little packets, just add
warm water.

Thanks to all for the kind words and good wishes. My DD called this morning
saying that Willow is so much more comfortable in the newborn clothes. I
got her some onsies with long sleeves that have mittens since she has been
scratching her face. She likes to sleep with her hands near her face for
some reason. She may be trying to find her thumb. But the new duds did the
trick. She's not fighting with sleeves that came down to her knees. Now
she needs to find a bottle nipple that gives her the proper flow of milk.
DD wants to try the Playtex nurser system which worked very well for my
grandson. May help with her hiccups too which she has had since before she
was born. Seems like DD is much more comfortable and confident with the
second one which is nice to see. She's not freaking out at every little
sound or issue.

: The baby is here - finally! She ended up being a week late and was born a
: day before mom was supposed to be induced. After an extremely short labor
: and two pushes, Willow was born at 12:23 am on August 12. Meconium from
: baby and heavy maternal bleeding issues added a bit of anxiety to the
event.
: She weighed 6 pounds 8 ounces and was 19 inches long. Mom and baby are
both
: fit as a fiddle at this point. Dad and big brother are just smitten with
: her. So far, she is a very mellow baby. Today I had to go shopping for
: newborn clothes since everything we bought before hand was 0 to 3 months
and
: was far too big. She really needs newborn sizes for a while.
:
: It has sure been a fast and furious couple of weeks. We now have one more
: August birthday to celebrate. My son and his family from Florida (my
first
: grand daughter included) are visiting both families this week which will
: encompass both weekends. If the planets align appropriately, I may get a
: few pictures of all three of my grandchildren at once! My son moved to
: Florida 13 years ago and hasn't been back since. We generally go there
: since we have more family there. He is spending the weekend with us while
: his wife and daughter are in the Poconos with her family. He will join
them
: there on Monday. It is so nice to have him here. It sure has been busy
: with the baby only being a few days old and trying to help my daughter
while
: trying to spend as much time with my son as I can. I guess it keeps you
: young!
:
: I have quilts all planned for the new baby and hope to start on them right
: after Labor day since I am committed every day until then. I have all the
: fabrics which are already washed so I am ready to go. I have a web page
: almost done for the new baby and will make sure to post pictures of her
: quilts and crocheted blankies.
:
: I hope everyone has been well - you are always in my prayers and good
: thoughts. I hope to get caught up on the postings in the next few days.
