Great link - thanks for the memories and the 411 on whether they're
still around... NOT! :-(
Our scissors have light blue handles, and like the article said, the
price (3.99) is still written on the back of the case in black marker
ink. We WISH we had bought more than one pair!
The slogan we remember was "No bags at Spag's" and it was always funny
to see customers fighting over empty cardboard cartons to haul their
hauls away... I do recall the cowboy hat logo and the name "SPAG'S"
painted on the roof that you could see for 2 miles down route 9. We
used to go once a week - like a ritual - and often brought our own
empty boxes, as did a lot of folks. That place was a riot. Except
for the hardware section, it seemed like the place was different every
time we went. I always wondered why that place didn't grow into a Wal-
Mart or similar... Times change, I guess.

And Spags was the best...so much fun....I still have a set of 3 stainless
steel bowls with
handles that dh bought for me 49 yrs ago...and used and used and used ...the

still in place-unlike another bowl bought just recently that the handles
ripped off the 2nd time I used them--
I'm not sure Spags is still around either as I"m not fr. MA...Seems like you
had to
bring your own bags?...Anyway...they had good deals and was fun to shop
there.

DW has a pair of Wiss that she's been using (and loving) for 30+ years
that we got at SPAG's (Framingham?, MA) for $4 (which was a good deal
even back then - she estimated that they were worth $12 - $16 at the
time). I have no idea if Wiss or SPAG's are still around...
Scrounging through the sewing cabinet, I also found a very old (older
than me, but rarely used, and in perfect condition) pair of Wiss
pinking shears that were my mother's. If my mom had them, I'd venture
they were the best available at the time, because that's the way she
was...
I would guess that, like good hand tools, good scissors should be good
forever as longh as they're used & taken care of properly, so finding
a good pair at a sale shouldn't be out of the question, and may be a
heck of a bargain.
