Re: "faqs" was.. Re: Interview with Ricky Tims

Yes there are FAQs.
There is also a charter, which as I recall is a bit on the short and
vague side. That is sad, because the newsgroup charter is the first
line of defense against spam and such, particularly in defining limits
for advertising within a group. Upon a time, isps and assorted servers
were much more responsive to complaints from big 8 heirarchy groups,
of which rec is one. However google has done a lot to kill that,
simply by being responsive to nothing, and providing a mask for
anybody.

Esablished usenet etiquette allows people to advertise their buisness
in a sig line of preferably no more than 4 lines, attached to on topic
messages that are no shorter than their sig.
That is, or was, regarded as simple courtesy all around.

Directs to an on topic article on an obviously poster owned commercial
site have been a bone of contention in every newsgroup I have ever
posted in, save for the discordians.

These "RCTQ Faqs" are "common usage" patterns made up by members of this
group, some by people who haven't been around RCTQ in years,
some that are years out of date;
these "faqs" aren't "official" and they don't serve as law to anyone
who wants to post anything, altho' as a group we've agreed that these are
guidelines we generally follow. The off topic discussions are more a
violation of Usenet Newsgroup rules than someone posting the
addy to her blog or articles which may include ads. And since
when are articles about quilting a no-no on a quilting newsgroup?

Btw, Webshots & its ilk are full of ads, screaming, flashing, offensive;
how many are posting links to that, and/or to their personal sites which
contain ads or items for sale?

Well, now I'm here. I'm employed full time during the day. And I don't
visit newsgroups at work. The timestamp on your email when it arrived in my
mailbox is 4:21 AM. By that time I am headed for my morning run and getting
ready for work. Now I'm here. It's 8:25 PM my time. My personal time
today for answering emails and visiting online groups. Sorry I wasn't fast
enough for you and you decided to share my private email. I'm the one who
makes decisions about when I will answer emails.

Yes, there is an FAQ. It's link is on our website at
http://www.geocities.com/rctq_quilters/
First paragraph -- "Please, no advertising. Rec.crafts.textiles.marketplace
is the appropriate place for ads."

It's also in all those other places that people have already referred to.

Your "news" is merely an ad for what you also sell at your website. You
don't seem to read and comment on anything anyone else says. I have no
problem with lurkers, but I do have a problem with advertisers. As do
several other folks. If you become a participant, I still would prefer not
to see your ads. That pretty much means I need to block everything you send
since there would be not way to tell your spammed ads from your repartee.
