I've never used a *** to back a quilt, but all the ladies around
here seem to do it.
They do it here in TN also. I started using colored sheets with my second quilt. Any leftovers went into more quilts so there was no waste.
I know that it's not
a good idea when hand-quilting because the thread-count is so dense.
I had no problem. I use a metal thimble.
But is there any reason not to
use one when you're machine-quilting?
Do a small wall hanging and see how it works on your machine.
