Re: OT - There are arrangements and then there are "arrangements"

Thank you so much Polly. My FIL was blessed with 6 wonderful children with different strengths. All of the children ranging from low 40s to high 50s all live within 20 miles of Dad. Two still live on the street where Dad lived and raised those children. They had moved away when they married but when homes went up for sale on that block, they moved back. They visited or called every day. One daughter is a geriatric oncology nurse, one is a dental hygienist and one is a financial coordinator for a car dealer. His sons include an engineer, a policeman and a printer. Dad was a typesetter way back when before machines took over this task and I have some of my treasured thimbles displayed in an original typesetting drawer which he gave to me. It looks great hung on the wall in my library.

I suspect my husband and his sister, the nurse, will take the lead on the arrangements. All of the family members who have passed on have been buried by the same funeral home so they have a good idea what the family will need. My husband is also the executor so he will have more to do than the others, but if there was ever a team that pulled together when needed, it's this clan.

I understand, Alice. Most of my family and DH's were born in October. Many of us have died in October. All of us would gladly forego the birthday celebrations just to bypass the making of October arrangements. Could we please just not have October? How does anybody expect you to make arrangements when you are too grieved to think? I don't know. But know this, we are holding you close in our prayers and in our hearts. God cover you with the feathers of His wings. Polly

Thank you all for the kind words and virtual hugs and prayers. I have only
been involved in making arrangements twice in my life -so far. Once was for
my Dad over 35 years ago and the other time was for my sweet, wonderful MIL
less than 10 years ago. Now I will help my DH through the arrangements for
his Dad tomorrow.

Right now we're trying to make the necessary arrangements to get my stepson
home from Marine base in California. Shouldn't be a difficult task
considering he is not in Iraq or other overseas deployment, but he just left
our home on Monday to head back to base. You see, he was home to attend the
funeral of his maternal grandmother. Two grandparents passed away within a
week of each other! When I mentioned this to my DH he replied that it was
even stranger that all four grandparents died in the month of January!
