Re: Does a Cricut cut fabric??? YES!!!!!! IT DOES!!!!!

Thanks for the information. I will add this to my list of things to
try.

As for making the grapes---have you tried the Perfect Circle
templates? They are very thin heat resistant washers in many different
sizes. No, you can't find the same thing at the hardware store. We
have all looked and looked. The Perfect Circles are specially cut.
Sorry I don't have a web site right now but if you try Google I am
sure you will find a source. One fun part is that you can make
slightly different size grapes which makes them look very real.

To use the Perfect Circles you run a gathering stitch around your
circle, lay the proper size washer in the center, pull-up the
gathering thread and tie a knot. Once your have several made you apply
starch to the edges and iron them dry. The starch helps the circle
keep its shape when you snip the gathering thread and remove the
washer. The gathered fabric slightly pads the grape adding to the real
appearance. With very smooth round edges it is easy to applique the
grape in place.

So i finally got to the applique part of my quilt .. and YES a cricut DOES
cut fabric!!!! you just have to use a good iron on stiffener (i used heat
and bond) and then place it fabric side down. program in your picture...
full pressure and 6 on the cutting blade.. and presto!!! it cuts right
through no problems!!! just make sure there are NO bubbles in the fabric
when you put the heat and bond on or else it won't cut correctly where the
bubbles are...

I cut out 200 circles for grapes in about 10 minutes! now the hard
part.... making bunches of grapes and sewing them on!

Hi all .. .

Does anyone out there have a Cricut machine that does cutting? Have you
used it to cut out applique pieces? Does it work? got any tips?

I am working on a quilt now that has a grape vine that is appliqued on
the front. And it's going to take a lot of circles.. i was thinking of
trying to cut them on the cricut once i have them stabalized... I'll try
on scrap and let you all know what happens... hopefully the 2 crafts can
come together and work as one :)
