Re: Side Winder....Serious Xmas gift for fly tyers

Much worse, Kate dear, much worse. I am somewhat careful here. Polly
(and thank you kindly)

Polly -- you bring a smile to me with almost every post of yours I read!
What fun it would be to meet you in person and really see if you are as
"ornery" and funny as it seems! What a wonderful sense of humor you
have!!!!!

Sounds great, Val, but there are no fly tyers around here. If you think
of a practical application of the Side Winder for moonshiners, please do
let me know. Polly

"Val" <wrote>I was sorting thru my fly tying stuff this afternoon (I'm
getting rid of it
since my poor old arthritic hands don't cooperate anymore.) and the
light bulb flashed on. If any of you have a fly tyer on your gift list
that Side Winder just may be the ticket.

The tying tool called a 'bobbin' is a gizmo that holds a spool of thread
used for tying. See link:
http://www.flyshack.com/DisplayCategory.aspx?CatID=605 The thread spool
is held between the little "ears".
Many tyers (like me) like transferring their thread to metal SM bobbins
because they feed smoother than a spool and it's more comfortable to
hold. If you want to wow a fly tyer, whose motto is usually "one can
never have too much stuff or gadgets", I'd say give them a Side
Winder......I'm really serious about this. I always wound my spools off
using my sewing machine and several of my fishing buddies who also tied
used to bring their spools and metal SM bobbins to me so I could wind
these on my machine for them. Nice little gift.....One Side Winder and a
pack of metal SM bobbins for the Fly Tyer on your list. ;)
