Since this happened "on the job", but was overseas, is OSHA still
liable? Since the company is based in US, that may be why they are
nervouse about the ramifications. OSHA [Occupational Safety and Health
Administration] is usually th governing body for workplace safety. The
company could lose big time in the form of fines/lawsuits, and if they
knew they were supposed to have something in place and didn't, it
oculd cost them a license.
Eh, OSHA has been defunded to the point that they've got no teeth. And even
if a company KILLS an employee, they often don't even receive a fine.
I wouldn't even hesitate to file a lawsuit. Why would you? The company who
owns the boat didn't do anything to make it safe for your husband.
The only thing they are afraid of is their bottom line and they aren't going
to do the right thing because it's the right thing to do. They are only
going to do the right thing if they are forced to do it.
