That was $10 per month. I haven't seen any down time other than when
my Internet server (Embark) crashes.

If you want to see every group under the sun you can go to a web based
server called easynews. One of my friend's has it and loves it. You
don't download headers/subject lines, you choose what to download
while online, and the download the whole message at once. Cost
$12/month.
