Re: OT..Joke..Should a child witness a child birth??

after ds was born we waited only 3yrs 3mos for next ds.
decided i'd have him at hospital as with 2 kids at home i knew i'd need a
rest and as long a stay at hospital as i could fanagle (sp?). in those days
here you could stay for 2 weeks if there were enough beds and your dr said
he wanted you to stay. i splained bout the two kids at home and how i really
needed and my dr took pity on me. i managed to stay for a full 11 days,
heaven. someone else to wash all those nappys and make meals and clean up
after meals. yep, if theres a way i was gonna stay longer. :))
oh, sorry, bout the birth of last ds. we got to hospital, got into a big
bath for a rest during the labour. nurse on duty asked me who was gonna look
after the 2 kids during the delivery.
dont think she much cared for my 'middle of a contraction' reply. my dr knew
by then they were all gonna be in the room with me. oh well.
now my wee lad of only 3yrs 3 months had somehow managed to take up his
position at the end of the table i was on., no the foot end, argh.
all was fine as i was covered til the dr arrived. he just gently nudged ds
aside so he could get in and see what was up. by the time the baby was ready
to arrive, ds was wide eyed and taking it all in. yup, he watched 'his' new
baby being born into the world. great for bonding, lol. then they all
whipped down the hall, i mean everyone, cuz the baby needed some oxygen.
there i lay alone with my buzzer, dr said buzz and get someone in here to
deliver the placenta, we gotta get baby down to the oxygen, small rooms for
normal delivery there.
i buzzed, nurse pops her head in...what do you need? uh well, i'm alone and
baby/dr/the whole kit and kaboodle has taken baby down the hall for oxygen
and i need help with delivering the placenta, doh. oh my goodness, says
nurse. i'll be right with you, hollers at another nurse down the hall while
holding my door and came right in to help me.
whewwww, what a day.
all turned out well for everyone but i was concerned to say the least, lol.
oh gawd, i did it again, ramble'n on with my silly tales.
sorry folks,
jeanne

i was lucky enough to have a home birth for my son. dd was 4yrs3mo when
he was born.
she was in the room, watching it all.
small room with me, best friend, another friend at end of bed with a
mirror so i could see, dh, dd, midwife, dr and my mom in and out like a
yoyo fearing a home delivery, lol.
i distinctly recall dd say when he slid out....
"hes all blue and yucky!!"
cracked me up. tho she swears she didnt say that now.
snorfl'n in the south pacific,

I'm also pro having kids at the birth of their siblings, we intended for
DS to be there when DD was born, but a planned homebirth turned into a
nightmare in hospital and we forgot to switch his car seat out of our car,
if we had, I'd have had his carer bring him in and hopefully we'd have had
it timed right for him just to come in for the last few minutes. If I have
any more then it's a high chance it would be scheduled c-section, I
suspect a child has to be fairly old to be able to deal with that, but I
think I'd still have them waiting at the hospital, rather than just visit
later in the day. I'm amazed how much young kids understand, so though I
laughed at the joke, it didn't really ring true, DS was just turned 2 when
DD was born, she came along early evening, I told him she'd arrived over
the phone and I expected that he'd then go to bed and meet her in the
morning, but then I was told that he wouldn't go to bed until he'd seen
her and when would I be home (we were planning to go home asap and were
waiting for paper work), it was about midnight when we finally made it
home and he was waiting, knowing exactly what he was expecting to see. The
pictures from that time are fantastic, though a little odd, as I took
them, and it's my mum introducing the baby to DS!

Cheers

Anne
