Welcome Dorothy from L.A. (Lower Alabama! An old friend was from out that
way in the Panhandle and he referred to his home as such) I'm in the same
state but close to the middle, near Gainesville. This is a great place to
hang out and talk, about quilting or whatever else comes along. I'm sure
you'll enjoy it here.

Hi everyone,
I'm new to newsgroups and here. My friend "flair" in Michigan told me
about this group and I just had to join. Although I don't get the
opportunity to post much I'm sure I will be doing some.
I live in NW Florida panhandle. I'm so far up and over that I'm in the
Central time zone. I started hand stitching blocks many moons ago with
Flair and others on the BBS's. No internet back then. Any way I never
got any further then making blocks. Now I've started a prayer quilt
ministry in our ladies group at church. Sometimes I think I made a
mistake but then it is so rewarding I put all the dismay aside. See we
have several ladies involved....2 wash and press material....5 almost
know how to cut only (if I can just get them to measure correctly and
cut without mountains and valleys we may have less wasted fabric) then
there are 2 that know how to thread a needle on a sewing machine plus
have learnt how to stretch, sandwich plus pin a quilt and only 3 of us
that actually know a tad bit about quilting. Since 1/21/07 we have had
18 prayer quilts on the altar. Pretty good I think considering how
many actually sew.
I'm looking at all my books and patterns trying to decide some simple
blocks and or ???? to be able to get more of these ladies sewing. I
was so upset one day with the cutters that I gave everyone homework. A
simple 9 patch using the strip method. Well my worst cutter ended up
with totally different fabrics from when she started and over 20 wrong
block measurements due to her hurry up and cut, cut, cut method. The
unfortunate part is she never did learn a thing about measure twice
cut once. So I'm still trying to deal with those problems. Oh and that
is all she is willing to do.
I'm not sure of the rules concerning newsgroups so if I do something
wrong please let me know. I promise to learn not to repeat errors.
Well I need to get a move on as I have my group showing up soon and
must get to the church with a smile. Hmmm not always easy.
I would love to visit any of your sites and any sites that I might be
able to get simple patterns for my ladies and even more simple
instructions. Thanks for any help.
Dorothy
