Re: OT: English - Czech translations

My mom was Czech but never taught much of it to us. I know how to say be quiet. A few cuss words. A lot of food words. That probably won
t help you.
My cousin was over there a couple of years ago and she bought a mess of beautiful crystal and had it sent home. Her only regret was that she
didn't buy more. Good luck with the trip and language. I'm sorry
I can't help. Have some kolache for me though, and some knedlicky and
zelli too. I think I'd be in hog heaven if I got to go there!

Hi Guys,
OK, I already posted that I am tagging along with DH (he's going on business) to Europe next week. I am trying to find a site online that will give me translations for the basic language niceties -- stuff like please, thank you, you're welcome, hello, good-bye...... I have Googled English-Czech dictionary and have found a site that will give you the translation. Problem is, I have NO IDEA how to actually pronounce the words! Czech, like many European languages, has different pronunciation "thingies" that don't mean a thing to me. I need something that will give me VERY BASIC phonetic translations.
I could make the 20 mile trip to the closest Barnes & Noble but that means taking pretty much a whole day to go in the opposite direction of all the other errands I have to run this week! So -- does anyone speak Czech; do you have any idea what these words would be and how to pronounce them; can you recommend a website that would have the info I need? I'm sure that most folks in the Czech Rep. will know what the English please, thank you, etc. are but I just think that's so rude -- to expect people in their own country to understand my language!
By now the whole world knows & uses OK and most people know what you mean when you say Hi or Bye but I should at least learn a few basic words in the local language! I should also have worried about this when I first learned I was going with DH but was busy with life, etc.! No excuse on my part so any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks & CiaoMeow >^;;^<
