Re: hancocks of padacah

Howdy!

Han-of-Pad-- I told my long story about their terrible service,
lack of service, and the boss, Mr. Han himself, blaming this
customer for their mistakes, 7 or 8 years ago.
I haven't missed them.
There are really good on-line shops to do business with,
including The Fat Quarter Shop
(it's in Texas, you know <g>, just south of Austin,
the state capitol) and dozens of others.
Too many good businesses to put up w/ the crummy ones.
Most of the good shops do communicate on-line, return e-mails,
answer the phones, know their business, take care of their customers.
My experience w/ the physical Han of Pad was fine,
prices were average to normal, crowds were thick and patient
and well-served, all the check stands were open, and
the clerks I talked to were very friendly, several of them
were from the southern parts of this country,
one of them from about 30 miles from here. <g>
But their on-line biz--phbbbtttt! <g>

Cheers!

I used to order a lot from them, and the only real problem I
had was with their inability to notify when something wasn't
in stock. They would automatically backorder, but postage
on a single half yard that is going into a stash in
Australia is crazy, and I never knew until the order arrived
that something was backordered. So I used to add a comment
"DO NOT BACKORDER ANYTHING" on every order. And no matter
how often I told them I always got one of their big heavy
catalogues in EVERY parcel (more postage issues for
overseas!) The catalogue is nice to look at but when I have
to 18 copies - enough is enough!!

Since they put in the new web site I cannot believe how slow
it is, and my last few orders have had some O-O-S problems.
I am not ordering from them as much as I used to, but the ng
has tipped me off to a lot of other good sites so that could
also be a contributing reason.

To their credit - when I have complained they have always
made good. But then again - given mail lead times, I don't
order expecting stuff to turn up in less than about 2 to 3
weeks anyway.

I also use Equilter. When one of my orders went "astray" in
transit, they replaced it in full (although the hassle over
filling out insurance paperwork took a long long time).

I have a long list of places (quilt related) that I have
dealt with over the years. Most are good and many have - at
some time - had a problem or two. But if I get an apology
and a reasonable offer to fix the problem I will always give
the store a second chance. I do have one site I dread
dealing with as they consistently ignore written
comments/instructions (even sent me am email telling me that
they are never read!) but I am working on sourcing all that
stuff elsewhere so I haven't had to deal with them for
months now (Yay!!).

As I said above - the ng has tipped me off to several great
sites. Good prices, good service, attention to detail and
promptness. I go back again and again for those. I just
got a packet yesterday from the Fat Quarter Shop with the
usual signed card and "gift" from Kimberley, and an email
this morning confirming shipping details on another.
