Re: DH Update, all bad!!

Marlys,

I'm so sorry you and DH are going through all this. I wish there was some
way to ease the pain and sadness, but I'm afraid I don't have that kind of
power. The two of you are being held close in my thoughts and prayers, and I
hope the love and support of your family and friends will help you through
his difficult time.

Hello all,
Just a note to give you an update on life for us hear in northern
Indiana.
I won't go through all of the details except to say that DH was held at
Northwestern Hospital for 11 days in May, put through myriads of test and
it was discovered that he truly has liver failure, kidney failure, blood
clots in
both legs (corrected by inserting a filter in his main vein in the abdomen
at
the time they inserted the dialysis catheters in his upper right chest).
After
getting a Picc line inserted in his upper right arm, he was relieved of
all the
bruising that had occurred due to constant needle pokes from blood draws
IV heplocks, etc. About the same time the abdominal fluid was thoroughly
analyzed and it was confirmed that he has primary effusion lymphoma - a
cancer that has 50/50 chance of survival for someone with reasonably good
liver and good kidneys, which, he of course does not have. As a result,
he
was removed from the liver and kidney transplant list and can't be given
the
highly toxic cancer treatment because it would kill him quicker than the
failed
organs and the cancer combined.
Needless to say, that puts him between a rock and a hard place. The
latest developments of just this week is that his blood pressure is so low
that
they are afraid to do any more dialysis because that drops blood pressure
also
and that could kill him also.
About all we can do now is wait for him to pass away. I had to rush
him to
the hospital yet again last night and came home tonight to try to regroup
to
return to the hospital again tomorrow.
In a way it seems that this is happening to someone else and yet I know
it
is really happening to us.
To top it off, we had found a great new apartment that we are planning
to
move into in La Porte, which is where he was having dialysis and where a
bigger
hospital is and more specialists. But as lousy luck would have it, the
apartment
building still isn't done and probably won't be for at least 3 weeks yet,
and, you
got it, he could be gone by then. I have also been purchasing nearly all
new
furniture, which DH said we should have since it was going to be our new
place,
our new home. He said we even needed new dishes and new silverware. So I
got that too. Just about everything new, as he wanted and now it is
doubtful
that he will even see it.
Well, enough of my sadness for now. I will try to get back to all of
you later,
but I don't know when that will be, of course. All stay well, and those
who need
prayers and well wishes have them coming from northern Indiana and
requesting
the same to be sent our way. Take care everyone.
