I have a couple of the O'Lipfa rulers. But they only insure straight cuts when the fabric folded edge is exactly parallel to the edge of the mat. And since mats, at least around here, tend to lose some of their accuracy fairly quickly.........
I also don't usually use that long a ruler.
I have the same problem as Kathy (?) if I use the sandpaper dots, they are always in the way. And the clear rubbery dots are too thick, they raise the ruler enough to interfere with my cutter if I try to cut many layers.
But I love my tape on the rulers....><G>

lips. I haven't heard too many comments on here about lipped rulers,
but I wouldn't be without mine. You hook the "lip" on the top of bottom
edge of the cutting mat, line up the edge to your mark and cut. It acts
like a carpenter's t-square making nice straight lines and it rarely
slips at all.
I recently had to use someone else's tools, a slippery mat, dull rotary
cutter, and a plain ruler. What an enormous difference it makes to have
non stick items. The woman was delighted when I said I'd do all the
cuttting as she hated cutting. I told her I could see why she hated
cutting, her tools were terrible. She is new to quilting and didn't
know that things could be easier with the right stuff. I don't remember
what brand mat she had, but it was like ice, so slippery that the ruler
was all but impossible to hold straight, then to use a dull rotary
blade, I'm lucky I still have all 10 fingers.
