Well, as we all know, good ideas sometimes never materialize. Has anyone
done this? Of course someone has, there are so many organized people out
there. The big thing is - If I file them by pattern, I will never be able

find anything because I don't know the names of the patterns until I see
them.

I sort of do this.... mostly I am working with things I have ripped out
of magazines.

I divide my notebook into sections (well, notebooks but you get the
idea) Hand work, applique, pieced, quilting designs (for the quilting
itself), other items (for tote bags, table runners and other things that
aren't strictly quilts), techniques (for how to articles), articles (on
random quilting subjects) and inspiration (for pictures of pretty quilts
that I love)

That way, if I know I want to make a scrappy pieced something I can just
browse through the pieced section until something "clicks".

You could further divide the quilt patterns into - quick projects,
mysteries, scrap projects, seasonal, magnum opus, etc ;-)
