It has been such a sad day. I found out this afternoon that a dear friend has just been diagnosed with Alzheimer's ; she has fought various cancers since the age of 17 (breast cancer) and now, less than 50 years old, she has this horrible disease.
My daughter emailed me to let me know that the baby sister of one of her high school classmates was recently killed in a head-on collision; she was only 24. My son (24 also) and I were talking about her tonight -- they had been friends through junior high school and then we moved overseas and they lost touch. He remembered her as such as hippie free spirit, sort of out there, in a middle class Texas culture that didn't value individuality. I googled for her obituary and read about what a wonderful, caring adult she had grown to be and I grieve for her family and for the community she served so lovingly.
It is all just so sad.
