Another thing to think about--fees. There are fees to sign-up, $30, but is
sometimes waived, as well as fees to disconnect, which are anywhere from
$30-50 and a fee if you don't return the equipment, around $70. They somehow
neglect to tell you that. I agree with Kate. Go to the bare minimum on the
land line, then try www.lowermybills.com for good, cheap long distance. That
is how we do it, and use the long distance a LOT. Ours for this month was
$11, and we used like 400 minutes! Per cent, I think it is 3.5 for out of
state and 4 for in state. Our actual phone is like $30, but that is because
we have caller ID and call waiting. I understand about wanting to save $$,
as we are a one income family.
Have you contacted your internet provider about phone service? I know our
cable company is getting a phone service atarted, and we will be switching
as it is cheaper and still on a landline, so 911 isn't an issue.
