Re: OT - Anyone use Vonage?

911 on cell phones work -- but not in the same way...

they do connect you to somebody... but that somebody ...

CANNOT identify your specific location (no address pops up)
and if you are not in the "city proper" -- your call can be delayed while they route it to the
proper service. Valuable minutes can be lost. We learned this when my D-FIL fell in December. It
took several minutes before D-MIL got to somebody to tell them where she was and what she needed.
Then she had to give them correct address and info... at a time when she wasn't exactly thinking
straight -- they had NOTHING to go on without her telling them.

Please remember this ... when you make your decision. Do you have young children in the house? Do
you have senior citizens who could fall or otherwise need help?

You can always pare down your service to NO bells and whistles (caller ID, call forwarding....), no
long distance... etc. to as low a number as possible.

I am setting up my Tivo on the wireless network this weekend which will
eliminate the last need for a phone line. I am thinking of switching
to Vonage for phone service to help reduce the cost of our telephone
bill which seems to be skyrocketing every year.

Has anyone switched to Vonage and if so, can you share the likes and
dislikes?

I would love to use my cell for all my calls but the DH won't hear of
it! Wants a "real" phone in the house, he says.

Thanks!
