Product Review - Ziploc Big Bags

I didn't mark this off topic as I think lots of us here are interested in
storage products. I think the subject line is clear enough to warn off
anyone offended by a frank discussion of ziploc bags.

Let me preface this review by clearly stating my bias towards plastic
interlocking zipper-style closure bags, of any brand. I have boxes of them
in every size from the little snack size to the biggest ones I can find. I
save and reuse them (not ones with food - I'm too lazy to wash them out),
and my bag stash is a considerable force to be reckoned with.

When Ziploc came out with the Big Bags, I hunted them down. I found them at
my local Super Target, after striking out at several large grocery stores.
In the Super Target, they were with the other Ziploc bags, not with the
storage bins. I purchased both the Extra Large and the Extra Extra Large
bags. I can't remember exactly how much they cost - it was about $4 for
each. You get 4 XL bags and 3 XXL bags, respectively.

The XL bag holds a twin-size quilt easily. Or my entire Halloween fabric
stash, but Spike and Giles had to sit on the bag for me so I could get it
closed. The XXL bag can hold 2 twin-size quilts easily. It is long, so it is
awkward to carry, but I don't suppose most people would attempt to use it as
a purse. I currently have my Halloween stash in one XL bag, and 2 UFOs in an
XXL bag. I put them in the bags to tidy up my sewing area, and move them out
of the way as we decorate for Christmas.

I did find the ziploc closure to be difficult to get closed. It would
benefit greatly from the zipper slider that they use on some of their other
bags - like the gallon-size, but I'm not sure how that would work with the
handle at the top of the bag.

The bags are thicker plastic than standard food-storage bags, and seem
sturdy. They are folded as a set in the box, so you can't pull out just one
bag from the box. You must take them all out, unfold them, take the one you
want, then fold up the others to go back in the box.

There is some controversy over storing fabric in plastic bags. I am not
going to address that here. This is merely passing along product information
to be used (or discarded) as you wish.
