Lithotripsy used to have the patient put in a vat of water and sound waves crushed the stones. Now they skip the water, but since I was out cold I can't tell you exactly what they did. A stent is a flexible, plastic "straw" that goes from the kidney to the uretha. It keeps the pieces of broken stone from scratching and scraping the sides of the ureters while you're passing them. It still hurts every time you urinate.
