I would suggest having her sign a piece of
water- or heat- soluable stabilizer - you can
then embroider over it, tear away the large bits
of stabilizer and then wet or heat to remove
the rest, leaving the embroidery stitches
behind. You might also consider the Press &
Seal stuff- it will temporarily stick to a piece
of paper for the signing, and then to the fabric
while embroidering, and will tear away easily
afterwards.
