Way OT - 3 Cheers for DD1

We went back across to Bairnsdale this weekend as DD1 wanted to have her
first "Midget" (7-11 year old) go-kart race. Remember she's only had this
thing since August and hasn't practised a whole heap. In her class there
was an 8yo girl who raced for the first time last week but has been
practising for over 6 months, and a 7yo boy who was....well to put it nicely
...... cautious with the gas pedal! 3 heats (8 laps) and a final (10 laps) -
first heat Mads was in the lead but spun out on a corner. Being the nice
polite girl she is, she waited until they passed before righting herself and
going on. She made it up to be a competitive second past the post. Second
heat was a ding-dong battle between the 2 girls the whole way. Same with
the 3rd heat. Final had Maddy and Kez (other girl) battling and swapping
the lead the whole way - both girls lapped Elijah (boy) twice and on the
final lap Maddy zipped up the inside of Kez on the 2nd last corner and held
her lead all the way down the straight. She won! Yaaaaaaaay! You've never
seen a prouder mum jumping up and down on the inside of the track (I'd been
taking squillions of photos). I calmed down as I walked back. Overall,
Mads finished second on points.

All of us were so very proud. Only spoiler was the other lass saying that
it was a dead heat at the chequered flag. She had Mads a bit upset until
the starter pointedly came up and Congratulated Maddy on her winning move
and her first place.

Gotta love my little girl - she even told the other girl that it didn't
matter where you came so long as you had fun!
