When I was in HS our Sr. Class party theme was a beach party. It was
in February 1961. We took all of the cardboard tubes that the various
local carpet stores would give us. They were about 3 to 4 inches in
diameter and 8 ft. long. We wrapped brown crepe paper streamer
material around them for bark texture (it was stretched/ruffled on one
side) . The palm fronds (sp) were made from wire coal hangers (formed
into a leaf shape) covered with green crepe paper. We sat on blankets
on the floor of the gym, for some reason they wouldn't let us bring in
sand! ;~(
