I love your story!
My folks bought a lovely pink washer and dryer set from maytag when they
married in 1956. The washer finally died in 1983. The repair man came
out and laughed that anyone had those pink ones still. The dryer went
to a friend and I don't know how long it survived.
I bought the maytag neptune washer and dryer when they came out and
although others had problems mine are going strong.
We checked consumer reports before we bought, I think it's a good idea
for big purchases. Maybe your local library has a subscription you can
look at for their latest washer/dryer comparison.
