Well, that's really the history of beautiful crazy quilts.  So many are made
with pieces of material taken from garments. Curtains, whatever has meaning
and beauty that you want to keep with you.

With modern clothing, I think it's a question of whether the time to
"recycle" the fabric, and the likely result are worthy.  We tend to be very
throw away.  For me, if it's something I love and I may recycle it into a
totally different object.  But, if it's just the wrong size - there's a good
chance I'll donate it to a worthy charity (shelter, suits to the charity
that helps women looking for jobs, getting off welfare, etc).

Thank you Ellice , i read a lot about Crazy [ as well as `regular`]
quilts,,
 Of course with us , recycling and remaking , was a needed part of
life,
when i was a child , as we had nothing. Thus we learned to adorn the
plainest , older
things with a bit of thread , a new button etc ,,,,
Since i don`t buy much ready made clothes, i have things i just
change , lately i took some
`Veteran skirts` and turnmed them into cushion covers , some have
turned into bags , shirts etc,.,,,
I have some clothes which in some manner or other i already wear  40
years, thus if i now decided to cut them up for something it is quite
ok ,, The embroidery treasure box is either things i inherited or
recieved...
Coats and things i can`t reuse for myself , i donate wilingly .

I had a beloved bathrobe that I wore til it was threadbare, but saved
enough of the lewss-worn areas to make a couple of teddy bears. I've put
them in my daughters' Hope Chests and someday they'll find them there -
and may remember me wearing that robe *every day* for a big part of
their youths!
