needle punch newbie

hi everyone...

after many years of counted thread work, put down to quilt, and now
wanting something i can sit on the beach with, or by the pool, and not
have to count <grin>, i picked up a book and needle for needle punch.
call me crazy....

before i attempt it--any words of wisdom???
