Oh Anne, I'm so very sorry.
We had a dachsie who lived to be 17 -- the pain is unbearable, I know.

3 hours ago I sent my oldest furbaby across the rainbow bridge.
Merryweather was 17 and had been with me almost me entire adult life.
He had been loosing weight and spring in his leaps for the last couple
of months. I wasn't sure when I left for work today that he would still
be here when I got home. The look on his face when I got home told me
what I had to do. I know it was the best thing I could do for a
wonderful cat and companion, but it hurts so much. I still have my two
younger furguys, but I know they don't understand where their big
brother has gone. At least now his pain is over and he can once again
do his astounding leaps. And maybe he'll get to catch one of those
birds that has tormented him by being outside while he was stuck inside.
