Yes, the republicans are blaming house speaker Nancy Pelosi for the
failure of the Bailout to pass. Why? Because she made a partisan
speech.
We can't have people voting for a bill if there have been any partisan
speeches. The devastation of listening to a partisan speech on the
floor of the house was just too much for the delicate sensibilities of
the sissies on the right. So they were forced to vote no against the
bill, regardless of whether it was good for the economy.
As Nancy Pelosi walked from the lectern the republicans all started
handing her their balls since they would not be needing them anymore.
How many democrats voted against the bill? Were they offended by Nancy
No, they didn't like some of the provisions in the bill. Mainly it didn't
offer enough protection to homeowners with mortgage problems. However, she
delivered 140 votes and she only guaranteed 120. The problem was that 70% of
the republicans voted against it.
But the real question for all of you free market lovers is how do you like
it right about now? Today 1.4 trillion of wealth was lost. Free market's the
greatest thing ever, right? The down side is so much less than the up side.
Maybe now it's clear why some smart people were saying there wasn't enough
regulation of the markets. You shouldn't have listened to Bush and his
followers. Now do you see why?

That "loss" is a PAPER loss and the only people who have lost anything
are those who panicked and sold. When the market recovers the
"losses" will disappear. If you don't think the market will recover,
just think about where it was five or so years ago. Without having
the numbers in front of me, I believe that we are STILL higher than we
were then.
