Mommas, don't let your babies grow up to be ENGINEERS! If engineers
were regarded as valuable they would be treated and compensated

but it certainly isn't generally so now.

I googled and found a site with engineer pay scales. Level 1
aerospace engineer is about 50K$ Level 4 is 82K$, and Level 5 is 102K
$. So is this bad, and if so compared to what.

I said "generally so". There are certainly some good engineering jobs
out there, in aerospace and elsewhere. Things do vary considerably
with discipline and with geographical area. There are certainly
worse ways to make a living.

The aerospace engineers that are making good salaries are those that
have jobs. One can have a good job one day and be unemployed along
with many others the next day in that biz.

My perspective is probably far too narrow. I saw working condx
eroding when I bailed early in '99, and former colleagues tell me
that condx have gotten considerably worse since. But that's just
one corporation that was once a great employer and a great place to
work. However, I can't believe that things are all that much better
elsewhere because if they were then there'd be nobody left at the old
place.

Many or most engineers work considerably more than 40 hours a week if
they expect to advance or even retain their jobs for long. When I
drive by the old puzzle palace at 6 PM or so, there are still plenty
of lights on and plenty of cars in the lot.
