One could ask you the same thing - why do you profess to know about
something you clearly do not understand?
Your correct there Dave - I don't understand why you Yanks are so mad
keen on the right to own lethal weapons. Perhaps you, or someone else,
could explain it to me (and the rest of the world). Because I cant
understand it, given the 10,000 deaths and 50,000 injuries you have in
your country every year from "Bad" people using guns.
Why do you quote "Bad"? As if you don't agree that such a thing exists
or something, that's strange.
I quote "Bad" because sometimes people just go off their brains for no apparent reason - and yes, as you say, banning convicted criminals from carrying guns would be a good start. Do you do this already? - I dont know.
Well, our leftist politicians in particular tend to pass laws that give
criminals chance after chance after chance after chance, rather than
keeping them locked away for our safety.
Simple logistics there Dave - the USA already has the highest
proportion of its citizens behind bars in the world. Wanna keep on
building more prisons? - and it doesn't seem to have made much
difference to the homicide rate anyway.
Putative measures dont work - locking someone up for life for smoking
marijuana 3 times is not going to do much for society - pot heads
rarely shoot people, their too out of it...(and I dont think the
leftists enacted that law - but that doesn't matter, everything comes
down to a simplistic Left/Right battle.)
And yes, I do know how guns work -
you point them at things, pull the trigger, and a projectile impacts
at high velocity into it and causes severe damage. Anything more than
that is window dressing.
Dont know if you've ever known anyone who has been shot by an assault
rifle - I do, he spent months in hospital, hes still stuffed, years
later. Used to be a landscape gardener - now manages a part time job
in a hardware store. The guy who shot him (Martin Bryant) was a
"responsible" gun owner, passed police checks, and was legally able to
buy as much guns and ammo as he liked. Cant remember the gun, it was
an American military thing...the round tumbled around inside him
before it came out the other side - the surgeons did a WONDERFUL job
pinning all the bones back together, but hes still stuffed. Wonderful
things, guns. So many uses.......

Martin Bryant did not have a firearms licence.
