Hydrochloric acid? I'd not suggest that idea.
Plating is rarely accomplished uniformly. Assuming you could plate thick
enough to machine the exterior once you have a wall thickness that would be
to your specifications, removing the aluminum core by acid wouldn't be a bad
idea, but I'd suggest sulfuric acid, not HCL. Copper is insoluble in
sulfuric, although copper oxides are not. HCL will dissolve the copper
as well as aluminum, albeit at a slower rate.
