top posting again to pull Dave's chain.....
taking the points in reverse order, since I'm top posting....
1. I top post because I read from top to bottom, so i want to see the
response first, and then the history. But, I can tolerate bottom posting by
those who like to review the history first -
2. The problem with the pro-gun arguments is that they are made (largely) by
folks who actually care about their lives and the lives of those around
them. The conventions break down amongs those who dont.
3. Yes, I agree - every (or nearly every) shooter to which I refer is
already banned from owning firearms. But they still have them. So now, how
are we going to approach this problem - we can have more guns, leading to a
more difficult problem separating the wheat from the chaff, or we can try
something else - I suspect that arming more folks in a croweded high-crime
area will be much less effective than you might think at reducing violence,
in large part because taking risks and getting shot is a badge of honor, not
a mark of stupidity.

Indeed. And each and every shooter, I dare say, is _already_ banned
from handling firearms due to prior convictions. Yet they ignore those
laws, Bill.
Of course criminals don't
follow laws - so, how are you going to help those who are getting shot
You allow them the means to legally defend themselves. Tell me Bill, in
which states which have passed laws allowing law-abiding citizens to
carry concealed weapons, has person on person crime gone up?
(hint: you won't find any). All the rhetoric about "the Gunshine State"
and so on, blood running in the streets, make my day, blah blah blah,
keeps not being true, state after state. Criminals prefer unarmed
victims, you see. A bit of thought should make the reasons for that
obvious. And if you see _this_ as a personal attack, well, wow.
Do you feel that everyone should be issued arms
and REQUIRED to bear them (switzerland comes to mind) -
Naah, that's fine, if you choose to be unarmed, the uncertainty created
in the criminal's mind by the fact that some of us are, will protect you
anyway. Like in so many other things, there are plenty who benefit from
the actions of the few.
Oh, and mr MadDog -
Oh, is _that_ who you're answering? Do you see yet why top-posting
impedes effective communication?
