I have been using L15-30 3 phase receptacles and plugs for my equipment.
I
certainly don't need the 30 amp rating. 20 amp would be more than
sufficient.

Due to the high price of these items, what would be wrong with using the
4-prong receptacles available from Home Depot and elsewhere. These are
220
volt items and are meant for the 'new' 4 wire system required for driers,
ranges etc.
Anyway, 4 prongs is 4 prongs. 220 volts is 220 volts. The HD items are
$7
versus $30+ for the three phase items.

As long as I label everything with "Caution, 3 phase", does anybody see
anything wrong with this system. I know I could skip the expense by 'hard
wiring' everything to the source, but I sure like the convenience of being
able to unplug a grinder or drill press in case I have to move it.

Thanks for all advice,

Are you looking at the wrong supplier? I'm surprised at the prices you
quote.
Ok, I'm in the UK and things are not necessarily identical, but I'd pay
the
equivalent of $15 for a 32 amp 415V 4 pole (delta) wall socket and $11 for
the
matching plug. 5 pole (star) would be about 15% more expensive.

I would be very wary about using a single phase connector for three phase
under any circumstances.

Hi Mark

Why would you be concerned about using a single phase socket for 3 phase
in your home shop?
