I'll go along with that. If you read more than the "turn the other
cheek" phrase I think you'll find tht Jesus was talking about religious
persecution and that we should not treat those who persecuted us the
same way as common criminals.

Jesus also said, "When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own
palace, his goods are in peace." (Luke 11:21 RSV). That sounds a lot
like the right to bear arms. <g>

Gus is quoting Luke, who's gospels are derivative of Matthew and were
written in Greek. He's considered the least reliable of the apostles by some
biblical historians, and this passage is in the "black" category, which
means that historians (as opposed to casuists) don't believe Jesus ever said
it.

Gus may go for the inerrant reading, in which case this will fall on deaf
ears.

I wonder Ed...which "historians" are you talking about?
