Shameless plug for ncsmp.com

I haven't been reading the group for a few months (not like you'd
know, I mostly lurk) but I have a good reason: My brother and I have
been coding, testing and retesting a new site I believe many of you
will find useful. It's the National Center for Stolen and Missing
Property (www.ncsmp.com). It is completely free to register and use.
The way it works is this: Say you have something stolen. You can
list it on the site with pictures and a bunch of other information
about how and from where it was taken. Now when someone runs across
that "great deal" at a flea market, online, etc; they can check the
website and instantly know the item has been reported stolen before
they buy it. They can also notify you (and law enforcement) of where
they saw the item and who had it.
But you don't have to wait for someone to run across the item and
check the website. It will also generate a "Wanted" poster (in .pdf)
that includes make, model, picture, serial number, and a description.
The really nice thing about the poster is that it has your item number
and the address of the site on little tear-off tags at the bottom (you
remember those from college, I know). Now if someone comes across your
full set of Starrett micrometers, they can simply put in the item
number and contact you through the site.
The site will also generate banners and links along with the HTML
code to cut-and-paste into any website. The banners will link to
either a list of all the items you have on the site or just one
particular item, whichever you choose.
I would appreciate any feedback you would like to give about the
site. We are constantly trying to improve it so any suggestions and/or
criticisms are more than welcome. I hope you all find it useful.
Thanks,
Martin Riggins
