OT chauncey jerome [new haven conn.] 8 day clock

Dear All,
I know this is OT but I need some help and suspect that within
the body of knowledge held on this group will be the answer.
Firstly ,to be honest ,I know 'diddly squat' about horology.
I mainly build 5" steam.However a friend gave me a dismantled
clock, which had been stored for years in this condition. It was marked as
by Chauncey Jerome of New Haven Connecticut.
The case has French polished a treat. It has a lovely painted
glass showing a waterside scene marked Albany New York. The Works seem
reasonable-some wear but no worse than my grandfather clock which keeps
impeccable time-there was some gunge and rather than dismantle the
mechanism I used my ultra sound cleaner to remove it .Following this the
works appear immaculate. I then re-oiled[sparingly] all the spindles.
Now to the problem-it runs for a while and then stops. I have
observed that while running the escapement will occasionally skip more
than 1 tooth and the [pardon my ignorance-I don't know the technical
term] wire leading down from the escapement release mechanism through
which the pendulum oscillates appears to have several kinks.
I had put the stopping of the clock down to resistance in the
works due to old oil dust etc. but it is now clean and re-oiled. I think
the problem may be due to the escapement wire being maladjusted and not
imparting sufficient force back to the pendulum. Just a guess but any
advice would be greatly appreciated as I can't get on with my 5" gauge
Charles till I solve this problem. I think clocks could become
addictive!!!
Kind regards Ian
