I suspect your plasma cutting left a very hard edge, besides being an interrupted cut. Carbide cutter?

Used my plasma cutter and cut two 1/4" thick 3"x6" plates to serve as bases for bolt down metal gate posts. Cuts came out OK, but, only because there is a mill sitting there I decided to clean up the edges. This is a big "Tree" mill. Much beefier than a Bridgeport..
Placed the part lengthwise in the vise with only 1 inch sticking up. Tried to true the edge with the end of a 3/4" mill (tried several, even a new one) and I get an unbelievable amount of chatter, and a crappy cut. Tried cuts as small as 5 thou and many different speeds. No improvement.
Then I placed the item in the vice 'flat', thinking I would use the side of the 3/4" mill (two flute). Not much better.
I realize that the first method gives an interrupted cut. I also realize that clamping it flat to the table would have given me more stability.
How do you machinists do this? While the results were acceptable for the project at hand I SURE WOULD LIKE TO LEARN.
All responses welcome and appreciated.
