John, thinking of how much fun it would be to build a 1 Farad
air-dielectric cap
Hmm ... what voltage? We need that to calculate the minimum
gap, and from that the surface area needed to make that capacitance. At
any reasonable voltage, at a rough guess, it would at least cover the
size of some state in the US. :-)
A spacing of .010 inch should handle 50 volts without any problem.
With that spacing, one farad would only require 11.076 square miles.
It's merely a matter of getting two conductive surfaces of 11 square
miles with .010" of air spacing...
