Re: warm beer

The cold temps have got me thinking about warm beer. A little googling has shown me this is called "mulled beer" where the beer is warmed, spices are added, and sometimes a piece of bread or fruit is also added. I'm game to try this, but I'm wondering if any particular beer style is best when warmed?

In the olden days a hot poker was often thrust into a mug of beer in cold times.

One "cocktail" (an actually cock's tail was used for stirring) called "flip" was to add run and brown sugar to beer and then thrust in a hot poker.

Try a porter or strong ale for authenticity and don a tricorn.
