I figure I already know the answer to this, but I'll ask anyway.
I brewed a pumpkin ale back in early November, but have been unable to
bottle or keg it - it's been sitting in the secondary for several
months. I noticed that there's a thin layer of some white substance
floating on top of the wort now. I assume this is probably some kind
of contamination - mold or bacteria. I haven't tasted it, but figure
it has probably ruined the batch. Should I just toss it out and chalk
this up to experience (this is the first time I've seen this in
several dozen batches), or should I taste it first and then decide?
What's the possibility that this isn't a ruined batch?
It is probably a Brett infection. It doesn't usually effect flavor much but
can be hard to get rid of from your equipment.
