Should that rubber protusion automatically let gas out once the keg gets
above a certain pressure? How should I know how much gas to leave in the
keg?
A lot of people (all?) on this group have more elaborate setups, and
probably have never used these kits. I don't even know what happened here.
However, my suggestion is to let it run out of gas, add the sugar again,
Let it circulate, and fill the soda bottles with it. After a few days the
bottles should come up to pressure.
Is there a more appropriate newsgroup for amateur brewing?
Given your respons mentioning bottles, I think you may have misunderstood
(fair enough, if you're not familiar with these kits) :)
I don't plan to use any bottles: The pressure barrel was sold to me as
an alternative to bottling. (The whole point of homebrew for me is to
allow me to drink as little as I want, whenever I want, without having
to open a large can/bottle).
I worry that, if I let too much gas out the top, I will de-pressurise
the barrel too much and will not be able to draw fluid from the tap. I
also worry that, if I don't de-pressurise the barrel enough, it will
explode in a sticky mess!
