I'm a new extract homebrewer trying to improve the quality I get from
my expensive Blichman Engineering equipment, specifically clarity of
the final product. Here is my process. Please advise!
I heat to 165F, disolve about 10
pounds of gold DME. I steep some character grains for a while using a
teabag. I remove the teabag, scoop out any flotsam or jetsam, then
raise the temp to 212F.
Well, you might own some fancy equipment but your steps are out of
order. Grain steeping should be occuring before adding DME. Also, you
don't mention what type of grain you are using. Some grains require
mashing to convert starches to sugars, while other grains like crystal
malts can be steeped.
