Two methods are particularly effective. Baking soda and water solution
left to soak overnight and simply turning the bucket over, open end
down, on a fresh lawn in the sun for a day.
I was surprised how effective the latter method was the first time I
tried it. I was brewing and was about to empty the cooler mash tun in
the trash when the phone rang. I set it down by the kitchen back door,
got the phone, and when I came back forgot about the cooler. I left it
there for a couple of days before I figured I'd pack everything back up
and put it away properly. Went to lift it and wondered what the hell was
in there. Opened the lid and the smell nearly knocked me on my ass. I
washed and scrubbed the hell out of it and the smell was still there. I
think it might have been here that I read about the lawn trick. Tried it
the next day and the smell was completely gone never to return.
