What is *your* oldest stamp or cover so far?
The oldest cover I have at present is a domestic letter from the Danish West
Indies, franked with a bisect, and cancelled on 6th May 1903. St. Thomas is
such a small place that only the recipient's name, and no further address,
was needed for delivery.

Because of a shortage of 2c-stamps for inland rates, it was allowed from
20th January 1903 until the arrival of the new 2c-stamps from Denmark, to
use bisected 4c-stamps. The new 2c-stamps only arrived at St. Thomas on 23rd
May, 1903, and at St. Croix on 4th June, 1903.
The bisected 4c-stamp is from the series 1896-1901 (Scott # 18), valid for
paying the 2c-rate (Scott # 18a).
