What do you suggest for harddrive utilities to
clean out adware, spyware, temp files, harddrive errors??
Why don't you use Windows Explorer then delete stuff like
- adware
- cookies
- temp files
- so-called internet files
and stuff like that, manually ?
A lot of programs keep a lot of cookies of advertising
agency, all the crap with names beginning cookiename@xxxxxx
To clear out cookies and keep the ones you want, google for
Cookie Monster and for other stuff, CrapCleaner is a good start.
But as mentioned previously, beware of deleting stuff from
your registry and dlls. Even though it may say "this dll is
no longer linked to any program", that is not always the
case. Never use Norton Systemworks to clear out "unwanted"
dlls. You WILL regret it.
I appreciate the heads-up, but with two younger users on my computer
(my 4 year old loves pbskids.org games and my 10 year old looks up all
kinds of info for school reports), I inevitably get some crap that
screws up the works. It's gotten so bad at times that the repair/
restore disks don't do the job very well anymore.
I'm currently cleaning out all of my files and storing what I need on
CDs. Then I plan on dumping everything and starting from scratch. I
had to do it about five years ago. It worked fine until about a year
ago when someone opened a virus link in an e-mail and nailed me with a
trojan. At the time, Norton caught it, but some damage was done.
Time for a complete reprogram.
Jerry
