Your plonking is more like calling for attention in the schoolyard

Again, pretty weak and complete nonsense. In general, I have no choice
but
to respect your opinion as your opinion, however forced and convenient it
is.

That's your opinion.

I believe announcing new entries into a killfile is important. I'll have
to
admit, I've never analyzed this so deeply before, but hey, when provided
with "feedback" <chuckle>, I do tend to think. It's important for 2
distinct reasons:

First, while it is rare, there are often times the plonked DOES care about
the action. It's happened to me before ... in another group and time. If
an otherwise-intelligent poster suddenly gets plonked, even temporarily,
by
one or more folks who typically offer replies to him, this can cause a
worthwhile change. Again, rare. My killfile has 2 categories of
entries -
permanent and temporary w/expiration date. The permanent ones are obvious
simple-minded pests. Hmmm. 1 entry in particular is unique; could easily
be an "otherwise-intelligent poster" as my labels go, but has proven to be
so stubborn and non-sensical with contraversial topics that it isn't worth
the trouble to try and sift out any nuggets in-between. Anyway ...

Because it's happened to you, you project that it often applies ot others?
IMO, if you value your killfile so much, you should post it here regularly
so those on it will be identified as worthy and may be encouraged to change
their ways. Otherwise it's simply your own little exercise.

Announcing a plonk can work to set a tone that others "here" can choose to
pick up on. This almost seems sort of hypocritical for me, as it aligns
with the mob mentality I've "barked" about here before. Sort of. But if
I'm personally getting tired of reading someones posts, and I see a plonk
announced, or mention of a previous plonk/killfile/etc, it can help me
make
a decision for myself and also help classified the poster. Is this
temporary silliness, or something that needs to be addressed more
permanently? There are some here who have commented that they would never
killfile anyone. Well, that certainly is their choice, but I wonder how
much time these folks spend trying not to be rude to each telephone
solicitor that interrupts their dinner. Hmmm. Anyway, I've found myself
on more than one occassion reading about someone else's plonk and saying
"you know, he's got the right idea".

I'm one who has never killfiled anyone. Why bother. I enjoy reading most
people's posts, regardless of the topic. Emotional rants can be fun to
follow, too. Spammers I delete and posts on topics I'm not interested in I
just gloss over. I "plonk" with my mouse as I go.

A telephone solicitor interrupts me personally. A Usenet poster has never
interrupted me. Poor analogy on your part there.

Not that it matters. Whether you see it as a "schoolyard" tactic or not
is
irrelevant. It is and will continue to be SOP for me and and internet
tradition for others. Nah Nah.

That sure sounds schoolyard-ish to me. ;>)
