What's with the toning
What's with the crack all along the stars
Is this real?
This coin is from theRandall Hoard, which consisted of a couple kegs of
1816 through 1820, plus 1825 that were found under some floorboards long
ago. Many or most have spots and weird toning. The 1820 dated coins were
all from a die that had cracked all the way around the stars.
Just to clarify: I meant to say that the 1820 dated coins *from the Randall
Hoard* all had the crack, but that's not true, either. The ones from
obverse die #13 (the great majority of the 1820 dated coins found in the
Hoard) show the crack. There were a few from obverse die #14, also in the
Randall Hoard, that do not have the crack.
