I'll say it again, bad analogy as it is: if a rental real estate
property readily covers the prospective monthly loan payment,
principal and interest, and kicks off significant excess cash flow,
the property will get snapped up before any realtor has to show the

Whether it's a good deal or not such a good deal is of little importance,
at
least to me. The successful building of a collection depends to a great
degree on opportunity and serendipity - that is, putting oneself in the
path
of as many coins as possible. That's one of the reasons I frequent this
newsgroup. It's one more way to find out what's out there, and I can do
it
for practically no expense at all. So what if the price of the coin is
"more than it's worth"? I look at coin collecting as entertainment,
education, and camaraderie as much as or more than an investment. I go
to a
lot of shows, but travel costs a bunch these days, too, as we all have
noticed. When I blow a c-note or more getting to a show where I only
find
$20 worth or less of coins I want, well, I have to look at things a bit
more
philosophically than just from the vantage point of the bottom line.

Mon prof, vous avez la raison, comme d'habitude. But why not ask OZ
why? We don't have dozens of other dealers flogging their wares here.

I guess I don't ask him because I don't care. A dealer's motivation has
never been an issue with me. Some do it for ze monee, some do it for ze
challenge (Inspector Clouseau accent here), and others for myriad reasons
and combinations of reasons. Just like collectors, it seems.

As far as dealers flogging, or whatever, I wish more would do it (with the
requisite FA or FS, of course). One of them might just have that blasted
copper coin from Barcelona I've been looking for for a hunnert years.

genuinely "rare" coin - as in numerically scarce or few in existence -
as opposed to what the Great OZ is flogging, which is simply "kinda
rare in this high grade condition" but not too difficult to come by if
you can accept a VF or XF???
