love that mimeo smell.
Been decades and still I can smell it. Not sure anyone uses it anymore?
I suppose you can still buy it at stores that sell typewriter ribbons and
Victrola needles. Problem is, where can you find a good mimeograph
machine anymore? I remember cutting stencils with a little tool back in
Jr. High school.
Spirit duplicator is not the same as mimeo. Mimeo pressed gooey ink
through the cut stencil and could produce thousands of copies. Duplicator
gradually used up the purple ink transferred from a matrix *** and was
only good for 100 or so copies. If any school district is still using
either, their history books no doubt only cover up through 1975.

I guess time muddled my memory. I remember cranking the mimeo machine as
well as cutting the stencils for line drawings on the cover of our school
newsletter. And I remember the fluid smell. I figured they were all part
of the same process. But then I don't remember much else from those early
school years either. Except most of the alphabet.
